Article Icon 1Greenville Drops Camping World Suit

Greenville’s city council voted 5-0 to dismiss a lawsuit against Camping World over its flag size, following the enactment of House Bill 926 on Monday, which prevents local governments from regulating the size of American flags on private property.

The new law, which passed without Gov. Josh Stein’s signature, also prompted the city to cancel $37,500 in fines against Camping World.

A July report revealed that Greenville’s lawsuit against Camping World cost $25,285 in legal fees. Greenville will adjust its ordinances to comply with the new state law, ending the dispute.

The news comes just days after Steak ‘n Shake, which has multiple locations in North Carolina, announced it will install the largest permitted American flags at its restaurants nationwide as a show of commitment to American values.

Article Icon 1Judge Pauses BOE Suit During Shutdown

U.S. District Judge Richard Myers stayed proceedings Monday in the Department of Justice’s voter registration lawsuit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections due to the federal shutdown.

DOJ lawyers requested the stay because they aren’t permitted to work on the case during the shutdown.

Settled in September, the case faces intervention motions from the Democratic National Committee and the North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans. The federal lawsuit alleges the state failed to collect required voter ID numbers under the Help America Vote Act.

Meanwhile, NCSBE Executive Director Sam Hayes requested full Social Security numbers from the Division of Motor Vehicles on Sept. 29 for registered voters. He said the data would help improve roll accuracy and identify noncitizens, duplicates, and individuals for removal due to death or felony convictions, citing the Help America Vote Act and federal concerns.

Cleanup continues in Dare County after nine oceanfront homes—eight in Buxton and one in Rodanthe—collapsed last week, triggered by powerful offshore storms.

National Park Service crews and volunteers have already removed 140 truckloads of debris from Buxton, where the eight collapsed homes had a combined assessed value of over $5 million. Dare County’s debris contractor continues cleanup efforts in Buxton starting today.

Significant challenges include septic washouts and petroleum odors as a developing coastal low with Nor’easter-like traits threatens to hug the coast, potentially inflicting additional damage to the area.

In Rodanthe, the collapse of a single home spread polyester and wood debris across 18 miles. The homeowner used an excavator to remove the remnant structure, preventing additional debris from washing away, with the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association assisting in the cleanup.

The Recipe for 2,700% Growth

There’s a major shift taking place in the $282 billion craft beer market. Once dominated by distribution, approximately 75% of today’s businesses operate taprooms and brewpubs, prioritizing the customer experience.

It’s no secret why. They’re outperforming distribution-focused models. However, one startup is proving there’s another way, utilizing brewpubs to drive 2,700% distribution growth, and investors are taking notice.

Meet Westbound & Down. Their team redefines craft brewpubs with world-class brewing talent and Michelin Star backgrounds. That approach has earned over 20 prestigious awards, a partnership with Whole Foods, and distribution across more than 900 accounts.

A new flagship Denver brewpub is on the way. Now, they’re letting investors share in their growth as they work to scale distribution 4X by 2028.
