Erosion Threatens OBX Homes

Outer Banks homeowners are facing new challenges after another Rodanthe home fell victim to rising surf Friday, marking the coastal community’s seventh home to wash away in four years.

A Pennsylvania couple purchased the 1973 home in 2019 for $339,000.

Debris from the house washed ashore 11 miles away near Mirlo Beach, which is closed to the public while cleanup continues.

Several other Rodanthe structures along the oceanfront suffered substantial damage. Officials are advising beachgoers to avoid the area.

Trump Visits NC as Race Tightens

North Carolina has moved from “leans Republican” to toss-up status for the 2024 presidential election, according to Larry Sabato’s non-partisan Crystal Ball newsletter.

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak in Asheboro today with running mate JD Vance to deliver remarks on national security amid tightening North Carolina polls.

Ahead of the outdoor rally, the Secret Service planned to install a bulletproof see-through protective barrier to protect Trump from potential attacks. 

Shrimper’s Net Pulls Up Angry Alligator 

A Morehead City man and his 13-year-old son netted a 13-foot alligator while shrimping in the Neuse River near the Pamlico Sound last week.

In the shrimper’s Facebook post, the frustrated reptile emerges fighting and twisting while tangled in the shrimp net alongside the 20-foot skiff.

No one was injured and the alligator was released back into the river.
