A report by The Leapfrog Group reveals a significant range in hospital safety grades across North Carolina, with ratings spanning from A to D.

All hospitals in the Triangle received A or B grades, indicating strong performance in patient safety measures. Conversely, Granville Medical Center in Oxford was assigned a D grade, marking its third consecutive D since fall 2023 and highlighting ongoing concerns about patient safety there.

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization, evaluates hospitals nationwide based on various safety metrics, including infection rates, surgical errors, and patient feedback. The grades aim to inform patients and encourage hospitals to improve safety standards.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials are urging visitors to sign up for Dare County Emergency Management’s rip current forecast text alerts by texting OBXBeachConditions to 77295. These alerts provide daily beach and ocean safety updates for Dare and Hyde counties.

Love the Beach, Respect the Ocean is another resource that offers daily rip current risks, beach conditions, and safety videos.

Officials also encourage visitors to swim at one of the area’s five lifeguarded beaches, staffed daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. These locations include Coquina Beach on Bodie Island, Rodanthe Beach, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Beach, Frisco Beach on Hatteras Island, and Ocracoke Beach.

Further south, Oak Island offers email and text alerts for beach conditions and town news via its municipal website.
