Question: What was the original name of Queens University of Charlotte?
Answer: Queens University of Charlotte originally opened as the Charlotte Female Institute (1857-1891) before undergoing several name changes. It was known as the Seminary for Girls between 1891 and 1896, and the Presbyterian Female College from 1896 to 1912.
It was renamed Queens College in 1912 and moved to its current Myers Park location. Queens College opened a co-ed evening college in 1948 and became fully co-ed in 1987.
In 2002, it was renamed Queens University of Charlotte in recognition of its growth and co-ed status.
