The Roundup

Article Icon 1Charlotte Purchasing O-line for New Train

Charlotte City Council voted Tuesday night to purchase Norfolk Southern’s O-line to create the red line commuter train. To help fund the project, City Council also approved a request to the state legislature for a 1-cent sales tax increase.

The purchase includes the 22-mile O-line right-of-way to Davidson and 1.6 acres for a downtown station site.

Both measures passed 10-1, with only Councilman Tariq Bokhari voting against. Those in favor see the acquisition as the beginning of creating a more accessible city.

Article Icon 1 Wake County Adding 4 New Schools

Wake County schools announced a new enrollment plan that includes the addition of three elementary schools and one high school in the southern part of the county.

The new schools under construction are in Apex, Holly Springs, and Fuquay-Varina, with Apex receiving the new Felton Grove High School.

A few thousand students across 30 existing schools will change schools in the 2025-26 school year.

The district sees the new plan providing long-term stability amid the area’s rapid growth.

Article Icon 1TV Dispute Could Disrupt NC State Game

Disney pulled its channels from DirecTV Sunday night amid an ongoing contract dispute, and DirecTV subscribers are still without access to ESPN, FX, Disney Channel, and National Geographic, among others.

It is unclear whether DirecTV customers will need to find another way to watch the top 25 matchup between NC State and Tennessee Saturday.

DirecTV is offering a one-time credit to eligible subscribers for the disruption to Disney-owned content.
