Gov. Stein Signs Six Bills

Gov. Josh Stein signed six bills into law Friday but did not sign or address two immigration measures and one concealed carry without a license bill.

House Bill 506 creates a five-person board of appointees to manage state employee pensions, a duty normally held by the state treasurer.

House Bill 50 changes how law enforcement separation allowances are paid, while House Bill 231 eases license transfers for social workers between North Carolina and other states.

Gov. Stein also signed House Bill 477, Senate Bill 248, and Senate Bill 477, addressing retirement death benefits, birth certificates for adopted persons, and DNCR agency updates.

Reactions to Israel-Iran Around NC

After the exchange of missiles between Israel and Iran, leaders around the state are calling for peace.

Rabbi Mandy Wilschanski urges prayer and hopes for peace, while UNC professor, Navin Bapat cites regional tensions but sees no immediate threat to the U.S.

NC State grad Ret. Lt. Gen. Jack Shanahan says that people may see an increase in grocery prices as people get nervous about supply chain issues from the Middle East.

Rabbi Eric Solomon of Raleigh wants “nothing more than peace” but believes in Israel’s right to defend itself. 

Father’s Day Around the State

Cities and towns across the state are celebrating Father’s Day with cars, craft beer, dad jokes, and festive picnics.

The town of Matthews is hosting a Father’s Day Car Show, with proceeds benefiting animal rescues. The event includes raffles and prizes.
