A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is under criminal and internal investigation after a video allegedly shows him tasing and slamming a female student to the ground while he was breaking up a large fight at West Charlotte High School on Friday. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. in the bus lot during dismissal, and the girl was hospitalized, treated, and released.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is seeking additional witness videos via Crime Stoppers.

The school’s principal informed families that the incident is under review by both the school and police, and emphasized student safety as the top priority.

The school announced on its website Sunday that Monday would be a remote learning day, with students expected to return to campus on Wednesday. No details were provided about Tuesday.
