Question: What inspired the creation of the Lake Lure flowering bridge?
Answer: William Miller, a Lake Lure resident, envisioned transforming what was previously known as Bridge No. 7 into a vibrant walking garden, inspired by the Shelburne Falls Bridge of Flowers in his home state of Massachusetts. Appointed to the town’s parks and recreation board in June 2010, Miller rallied support from local officials and community members. Shortly after, Lake Lure assumed ownership of the bridge, enabling Miller’s Flowering Bridge project to gain approval and move forward as a potential tourist destination.
