Question: What happened in Bat Cave, North Carolina when the 1989 movie Batman starring Michael Keaton came out?

Answer: Bat Cave is an unincorporated community in North Carolina that straddles the Henderson County/Rutherford County border. When the movie Batman starring Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, and Jack Nicholson came out in 1989, people sent letters to the Bat Cave Post Office just to get the Bat Cave postmark on their mail.

Bonus info: Bat Cave sits on the side of Bluerock Mountain and gets its name from a cave not currently open to the public that is home to various species of bats, including the rare Indiana bat, an endangered species. The cave is also the world’s largest augen gneiss granite fissure at over 1 mile long. The entrance “hallway” is 300 feet long and 85 feet high. See photos here.
