Question: How did Pisgah National Forest get its name?
Answer: Reverend James Hall first called the area Mount Pisgah during General Griffith Rutherford’s campaign against the Cherokee. He drew the name from the Biblical mountain where Moses viewed the Promised Land, and the designation has remained ever since.
