Question: What now-demolished North Carolina house did President George Washington once sleep in?
Answer: President George Washington stayed in the Gatewood House in 1791, which was built sometime between 1770 and 1790 on what is now N.C. Highway 86, just south of the Virginia state line as the home of Revolutionary War veteran Dudley Gatewood. It was later moved to a nearby location in the late 19th/early 20th century, then moved again to Hillsborough in 1978, where it became a restaurant. Unfortunately, the historic home was demolished in 2024 for suburban development.
