Answer: Parkway Playhouse in Burnsville is the state’s oldest continuously running summer playhouse. It was originally established in 1947 by Dr. William Raymond Taylor, a professor of drama at the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina, now known as UNC-Greensboro. It was first named Burnsville Playhouse, Inc. and School of Dramatic Arts, and was renamed Parkway Playhouse in 1979.
