Question: Why was Shallow Ford an important acquisition during the Revolutionary War?

Answer: Shallow Ford was important because buffalo, Native Americans, frontiersmen, and settlers used it as a Yadkin River crossing point due to its hard rock bottom that spanned an area 100 feet wide and 300 feet across, bank to bank. The ford also lay strategically on the Great Wagon Road, which ran from Pennsylvania to Georgia and was used by colonists and natives to transverse the interior of the East Coast.

Shallow Ford is a future North Carolina Historic Site expected to open by 2025. The 246-acre site is currently closed to the public for planning and development.
