Question: When does fall color peak in the mountains of Western North Carolina?
Answer: There’s no single peak weekend. Color moves down the elevation gradient. Higher elevations between 3,000 and 4,500 feet peak in mid-October, while Asheville proper, at 2,100 feet, peaks in the third or fourth week of October. Downtown Asheville and Biltmore Estate hit their best color in that same mid-to-late October window.
