Question: Where in North Carolina can Venus flytraps be found?

Answer: Venus flytraps are small, carnivorous plants that live in distinct longleaf pine habitats in the Coastal Plain and Sandhills region of North Carolina and South Carolina. Charles Darwin researched them in the late 1800s and called the Venus flytrap “one of the most wonderful plants in the world.” While rare, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined in 2023 that it doesn’t meet the definition of threatened or endangered, and therefore does not warrant a listing under the Endangered Species Act.
