Question: What North Carolina city was the state’s first general hospital located in?

Answer: St. Peter’s Hospital opened in Charlotte in 1876 and is credited with being the state’s first general hospital. Originally called Home and Hospital, St. Peter’s Hospital occupied two rooms on East Seventh Street and moved to various locations during its first year. In 1877, a local organization purchased a lot on Poplar Street for the hospital, where it began operations on June 4 as the Home and Hospital of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. View a photo of it here.
