Amtrak Route Includes 3 Triangle Stops
Amtrak will temporarily combine two long-distance routes to provide roundtrip access between Chicago and Miami beginning Nov. 10.
The new route expands North Carolinians’ travel options by including stops in Selma, Raleigh, and Cary.
The Silver Star train, which currently travels between New York and Florida, and the Capitol Limited, which travels between Chicago and Washington, D.C., will be combined into one route called the Floridian.
The new route’s purpose is to free up train cars and reduce traffic at New York’s Penn Station while Amtrak restores and modernizes tunnels under the East River.
There’s one downside: Triangle residents will lose a direct option to cities between Washington, D.C., and New York.
