Gov. Stein Touts Job Growth

Gov. Josh Stein is spotlighting North Carolina’s workforce strength following a string of job announcements and major investments.

At an Axios Live event, Stein praised the state’s universities and community colleges, announced GE Aerospace’s $500,000 contribution to a veteran training program, and highlighted six new company expansions bringing 850 jobs and $1 billion in investment.

Since taking office, Stein has announced nearly $21 billion in new investments and 28,000 jobs statewide.

Court Weighs NCDOT Responsibility

The North Carolina Supreme Court is being asked to decide whether the state’s Department of Transportation can be held liable for multiple deaths on a snow-covered interstate.

Families of victims argue that NCDOT failed to adequately maintain the roadway and warn drivers during the storm, while state attorneys say the department is shielded by sovereign immunity.

The outcome could shape future claims against state agencies over weather-related highway deaths.

Soybean Ban Hits Farmers

North Carolina’s soybean farmers are under growing pressure as China halts imports of U.S. crops.

The move has driven prices down and left many farmers struggling ahead of harvest season. North Carolina exports just a fraction of its soybeans to China, but global price drops are hitting local growers hard.

Producers are now looking to new markets in Southeast Asia while hoping federal relief arrives soon.
