The Roundup

Article Icon 1Governor Expects Severe Storm Impacts

Gov. Josh Stein warned that the impacts from the current massive winter storm could last for days, including power outages and treacherous travel.

The ice storm warning issued for the Charlotte area is the first in more than two decades, with the potential for .50 to .75 inches of ice. The mountains could see between .20 and .50 inches of ice along with 2 to 4 inches of snow.

The Triad region expected 2 to 3 inches of snow beginning Saturday evening before the precipitation changed to sleet, then freezing rain.

In the Triangle, forecasts called for sleet accumulations of .5 inches with freezing rain totals to accumulate between .25 to .75 inches.

North Carolina Emergency Management is maintaining a list of open shelters throughout the state.

Article Icon 1Most Wanted Fugitive Returned to Charlotte

Alex Castillo, a fugitive wanted for a 2016 murder, was returned to Charlotte on Friday after nearly 10 years on the run.

Castillo was added to the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on October 24, 2017. He is charged with murdering 23-year-old Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le. The Charlotte woman’s body was found on August 17, 2016, in a wooded area in Cabarrus County.

The FBI confirmed Castillo’s return after his capture by Mexican authorities following a decade-long investigation into Le’s death.

Her vehicle was later found abandoned at a bus station in Phoenix, Arizona, and video showed Castillo crossing the U.S.-Mexico border from Nogales, Arizona, the following day.

Article Icon 1Hallmark Filming Holiday Movie at Biltmore

As previously reported last week, a new Hallmark Channel holiday romance is in production at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Here are more details.

A Grand Biltmore Christmas will star Holland Roden, Rachel Boston, and Niall Matter and is part of Hallmark’s 2026 slate of original Christmas movies.

Set in 1895, the film introduces teenager Elizabeth to the mysterious Michael. A magical hourglass transports them 100 years into the future, where they must figure out how to return Elizabeth to her own time.

It is the second Hallmark holiday movie produced at the location. The 2023 film, A Biltmore Christmas, also featured a time travel plot.

A Different Message for North Carolina Readers

Time is short.

This isn’t a typical Flyover announcement. This one is about North Carolina.

We didn’t launch state editions everywhere. North Carolina was one of the first states we launched — on purpose.

Because North Carolina is different.

North Carolinians are independent, proud, and practical. We don’t want to be talked down to or spoon-fed an agenda from legacy, big-city media. We want facts, context, and common sense — and news media that actually understands this state, from Asheville to Wilmington, Charlotte to Raleigh, Durham to Chapel Hill, Greensboro to Winston-Salem, and the Outer Banks to Fayetteville.

That’s why we built Flyover North Carolina.

And because North Carolina matters, we’ve invested heavily here.

Since opening our investment round and inviting readers to become owners:

  • Flyover North Carolina has grown to 167,000+ readers
  • It’s now one of our largest and most impactful state editions
  • North Carolina readers are a major driver of The Flyover’s profitability and growth

A Personal Ask

We’re in the final days of this investment round.

Before it closes, we’re asking North Carolina readers first:

Will you help us take Flyover North Carolina to the next level?
Will you help deepen coverage, expand reach, and keep North Carolina news independent?
Will you stand with fellow North Carolinians to build the largest statewide source of unbiased, common-sense North Carolina news in the country?

No corporate spin.
No legacy media bias.
No celebrity journalists chasing clicks.

Just North Carolina news — written by North Carolinians, for North Carolinians.

If you open Flyover North Carolina each morning…
If you believe North Carolina deserves news built here, not dictated from elsewhere…
If you want to help take 167,000+ North Carolina readers to 1 million — or more — in 2026

The Flyover

Your “Property” Is Worth Less Than a Cup of Coffee.

Most timeshares don’t appreciate—they depreciate. In fact, many are listed for $1 or less on resale sites. Owners who contact The Stonegate Firm are often stunned to learn their so-called “investment” has no real market value. What was sold as an asset has quietly become a long-term financial liability, draining money year after year with no exit in sight.

Stonegate’s proven, attorney-powered timeshare cancelation process has helped clients effectively stop the bleeding, cancel their timeshares and eliminate thousands in unwanted fees.

Contracts That Last A Lifetime (And Beyond)

Some timeshare contracts are written to last forever, with no natural end date. That means owners could be responsible for rising fees for life, and in some cases, the burden can even be passed down to their children. Instead of offering flexibility, these contracts trap families in obligations they never expected. What once seemed like a vacation plan quickly turns into a generational financial strain.

With years of proven legal expertise, Stonegate has become a trusted leader in timeshare exits.
