Asheville could be a target city of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to city officials, though they have not received any official notification.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said it will follow state and federal law as required but emphasized that its resources will remain focused on protecting public safety—not enforcing civil immigration violations.

Meanwhile, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested 81 people in Charlotte on the first day of an immigration enforcement operation called “Charlotte’s Web.” Officials said many of those detained had significant criminal or immigration histories.

Criminal illegal aliens shop too … check out who was walking and shopping amongst American citizens today: a violent repeat offender,” Commander Gregory K. Bovino said in a post. “This is why border security matters. This is why we’re in Charlotte.

The sheriff’s office posted mugshots of those arrested on social media and said efforts to dismantle local drug networks are ongoing.
