The Roundup

Article Icon 1Noem, Acting FEMA Director Visit Western NC

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem visited Asheville Saturday to meet with key state officials and survey Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.

Joined by FEMA Interim Administrator Cameron Hamilton, Noem received a briefing from Samaritan’s Purse, then lunched with Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Budd and Republican Representatives Virginia Foxx and Chuck Edwards before receiving a briefing on water and recovery efforts.

She also visited a small nonprofit called The Blessing Project in Swannanoa, where she spoke with a young family who lost almost everything due to Helene. She then hopped into a large machine the Army Corps of Engineers was operating to help pull debris out of the Swannanoa River.

Noem promised Saturday that President Donald Trump’s executive orders will help get rid of “red tape” to bring more aid to the region.

North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson joined 18 other state attorneys general Friday in filing a lawsuit to prevent the federal government from sharing North Carolinians’ personal and financial data with the Department of Government Efficiency.

The AGs filed the complaint against President Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Treasury, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The case was filed in federal court and alleges the Trump administration allowed DOGE to access the central payment system in violation of federal law.

On Saturday, a federal judge in New York responded to the filing by temporarily blocking DOGE from accessing Treasury Department records that contain Social Security data, bank account numbers, and other sensitive information.

Article Icon 1Fort Liberty Brigade to Deploy to Border

The Pentagon will deploy a logistics brigade from the 18th Airborne Corps based at Fort Liberty to the southern border as part of 1,500 additional active-duty soldiers, bringing the total number to around 3,600.

The troops will install concertina wire barriers and provide logistical support, transportation, and intelligence to facilitate the Border Patrol’s operations.

In another story related to Fort Liberty, Army officials are considering changing the base’s name back to Fort Bragg. In 2022, a Congressional commission recommended changing it since it was named after former Confederate leader General Braxton Bragg in 1918.

The name was officially changed to Fort Liberty in June 2023.

This Team of Founders Has $350M in Exits Combined

What do a rocket scientist, an astronaut, and the co-inventor of the desktop PC have in common? They’re all pioneering the next step in AI together.

It’s called Synthetic Intelligence, which is when a machine truly thinks and learns.

For a limited time, you can invest in the company behind it, New Sapience, while they’re private.

Here’s why you should take advantage of this now:

  • The New Sapience team has $350M in exits and 100 patents combined.

  • Bill Gates has said a company that builds a true AI could be “worth 10 Microsofts.”

  • Their potential market is huge—anyone with a smartphone.

While ChatGPT and other Large Language Models are just rearranging words, this is an opportunity to blaze the trail for a machine that understands.

Take advantage of this opportunity to become a New Sapience shareholder while it lasts.
