Article Icon 1Duke Among 32 Schools Sued for Price-Fixing

Duke is one of 32 universities nationwide being sued by four current and former students from defendant institutions for allegedly engaging in price-fixing through their Early Decision admission programs, which they say violates federal antitrust laws.

The class action lawsuit, filed Friday in a Massachusetts federal court, argues that Early Decision agreements prevent students from comparing financial aid offers from different colleges, even though these agreements are marketed as binding but are not legally enforceable. This lack of comparison, they say, allows colleges to inflate tuition since they’re limiting competition.

The plaintiffs also argue that early decision agreements reduce student choice and leverage, while regular decision applicants face fewer admission slots. They seek class action status for students since 2021, unspecified damages for tuition overcharges, and an end to binding Early Decision programs.

Article Icon 1Earnhardt Data Center Faces Rejection

Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney said town commissioners plan to deny a rezoning request for a $30 billion data center on 300 acres owned by Teresa Earnhardt if it comes to a vote, which could take place Sept. 15.

The vote may lead to a deadlock, with Carney casting the deciding vote. Without knowing which tech company will purchase the land, Carney said he and the town’s six commissioners can’t support the project.

The Mooresville Planning Board narrowly approved the rezoning request 4-3 on April 23 before it reached the Board of Commissioners.

Kerry Earnhardt, Dale’s son, and his wife, René, also oppose the data center, citing environmental harm, disruption of rural life, and betrayal of Dale’s legacy. Mooresville residents are also concerned about noise and the potential strain on water and power resources.

Article Icon 14 Red Wolf Litters Born on Albemarle Peninsula

The Red Wolf Recovery Program on the North Carolina coast has confirmed the recent birth of four wild litters of critically endangered red wolf pups on the Albemarle Peninsula, home to the country’s only population of wild red wolves.

Five red wolf pairs are currently living on the peninsula, where there’s an estimated population of around 18 adult wolves and 10 to 12 pups.

Defenders of Wildlife announced the news Friday, stating, “Red wolves are survivors, and with public support and space to roam, they can flourish.”

Human-caused mortality of red wolves decreased last year, while partnerships with private landowners, conservation facilities, and external groups boosted the Red Wolf Recovery Program’s sustainable expansion.

Wyoming’s on the Verge of Becoming A Lithium Powerhouse

America needs 5X more lithium by 2035, but no new mines have opened since 1967. Meanwhile, current extraction methods are slow, waste insane amounts of water, and emit loads of carbon.

So Vero3 devised a way to not only cleanly produce 9K tons of lithium, they’ll generate 2.3B gallons of clean water and permanently store 3M tons of carbon in the process—all from the same 12,000-acre Wyoming site.

This first-of-its-kind project is already backed by $25M in federal funding and projects $183M in annual revenue

It’s the kind of zero-waste, vertically integrated model legacy operators can’t match. Even better? Shares are now open to the public ahead of commercial trials and a targeted 2027 Nasdaq IPO.
