Article Icon 1NC Joins Suit To Block Voting Executive Order

North Carolina joined more than 20 other states seeking to block President Trump’s executive order that aims to restrict mail-in voting, arguing the directive unconstitutionally attempts to interfere with states’ administration of elections.

North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson says he joined the lawsuit to protect the votes of North Carolinians who vote by mail, including active-duty military personnel and those who cast ballots in the aftermath of natural disasters such as Hurricane Helene.

The attorney general’s office noted that the order comes while more than 1,000 Fort Bragg troops are being deployed to the Middle East amid the conflict with Iran.

Eight states and Washington D.C., allow all elections to be conducted entirely by mail, while 28 states allow any voters to request an absentee ballot.

Federal agents arrested a man in Houston on Friday after Raleigh police searched for more than a week for him in connection with a fatal nightclub shooting last month.

Members of the U.S. Marshals and the FBI arrested Giovanny Hernandez-Jaramillo at a home and charged him with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.

Raleigh Police Department officers also arrested Martha Jones at a home in Raleigh. She was charged with felony accessory after the fact.

Jorge Dorantes-Carranza and another victim, whose name has not been released, were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds on March 22. Dorantes-Carranza died from his injuries, while the other victim remains hospitalized.

Article Icon 1NC Lab Tracks Artemis II Speed

Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute in Transylvania County is playing a critical role in the Artemis II mission, tracking the spacecraft’s velocity as the NASA astronauts circle the moon.

The western North Carolina research facility completely reconstructed a one-way Doppler receiving station to help track the vehicle’s velocity to and from Earth.

The original Artemis II patch, designed by the four astronauts, also has connections to the western region of the state. The crest was produced at A-B Emblem in Weaverville, which has manufactured the patches for every NASA mission.
