The Roundup

Article Icon 1Border Patrol Operations in Charlotte

Border Patrol agents conducted immigration-enforcement operations in Charlotte on Saturday, with arrests reported in east Charlotte, South Boulevard, and a shopping center on Central Avenue.

The activity sparked a large protest in First Ward Park on Saturday, where hundreds gathered amid rising concerns from residents and business owners in heavily immigrant neighborhoods.

City officials say they have been preparing for the federal deployment, though the scope and duration of the operation remain unclear.

Article Icon 1Wildfires Spread Across Western NC

Fire crews across Western North Carolina worked multiple wildfires last week as dry, windy weather fueled fast-moving flames in Caldwell, Buncombe, and McDowell counties.

In Caldwell County, a 20-acre fire near Burns Road forced evacuations, while crews in Buncombe and McDowell counties battled brush fires near Milksick Cove Road, Cane Creek Road, and Lower Brush Creek—some of which reignited after being contained.

Officials say weeks without rain have left conditions extremely dry, prompting warnings against open burning and urging residents to avoid active fire areas during containment efforts.

Article Icon 1New Prostate Treatment Used at CRHS

Columbus Regional Healthcare System introduced Aquablation therapy, a next-generation procedure for benign prostatic hyperplasia, becoming one of the region’s first providers to offer the new HYDROS robotic system.

The technique uses real-time imaging and a robotic waterjet to remove obstructive prostate tissue while preserving sexual function and continence, with CRHS performing its first procedure on Nov. 5.

The system expands CRHS’s growing lineup of minimally invasive prostate care, which also includes Focal HIFU for treating localized prostate cancer.
