Own The Flyover
A Message of Thanks — And a Big Update for The Flyover Readers

Thanks to you, our readers, The Flyover has officially raised $1 million in less than two weeks through our reader-owned investment campaign.

That kind of momentum puts us among the fastest crowdfunding (Regulation CF) campaigns in the country—and it’s only possible because you believe in what we’re building together. Thank you!

We launched The Flyover to give Americans a bias-free, fact-first alternative to legacy media. Your overwhelming response tells us this mission matters—and we’re humbled by your trust.

While the 10% bonus shares for our first $1 million raised have now ended, we’re excited to announce:
  • 5% Bonus Shares for the next $1 million raised.
  • PLUS another 5% Bonus if you’ve been a Flyover reader for over a month.
That means qualifying readers can still earn up to 10% bonus shares—but only during this next $1 million tranche.  We have made shares as easily available and affordable as possible at $2 per share, with a $750 minimum.

If you missed the first $1 million, don’t miss the next. Every share you buy helps us grow The Flyover and bring bias-free news to more readers than ever. Together, we’re proving that honest, fact-first journalism has a future—and that future can be owned by the people who read it.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency allocated $409.4 million to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality last week to upgrade water system infrastructure to better withstand future natural disasters and ensure continued access to safe drinking water.

The EPA funding is a direct response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene across Western North Carolina last September, which severely damaged water systems and left thousands without access to safe drinking water for weeks.

Local town leaders, as well as North Carolina’s U.S. Senators Ted Budd and Thom Tillis, praised the initiative, with Budd calling it “a step in the right direction to aid reconstruction efforts and mitigate future natural disasters.”

As hurricane season picks up, citizens can check the NCDEQ map to monitor the status of the state’s drinking water systems.

Article Icon 1Duke Energy Scraps Wind Farm Off Coast

The results of an independent study deeming offshore wind farms economically unviable prompted Duke Energy to cancel plans for a Brunswick County project.

Overseen by independent evaluator Power Advisory to ensure fairness, transparency, and confidentiality, the study was conducted over several months in response to an Acquisition Request for Information (ARFI), with results filed Aug. 11.

Local opposition, led by Brunswick County Commissioner Marty Cooke, cited concerns over marine life, fishing, and aesthetics, arguing that turbines harm whales and disrupt coastal economies. Cooke described them as “the most expensive, most dangerous, the most ineffective way” to generate energy.

The Southeastern Wind Coalition expressed disappointment and questioned the study’s methodology. Advocates argue there is no evidence linking wind farms to whale deaths, citing fishing gear and ship strikes as greater threats.

Three North Carolina establishments dominated USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Bed and Breakfast in 2025, claiming the top two spots and a fifth-place ranking among the nation’s coziest retreats.

Wilmington’s C.W. Worth House Bed & Breakfast topped the list for the third consecutive year, featuring seven guest rooms in Queen Anne-style interiors, gourmet breakfasts, a complimentary wine hour, and walkable access to downtown and the Riverwalk.

Durham’s Morehead Manor secured second place. It offers five rooms, gourmet breakfasts, all-day snacks, and access to restaurants, breweries, wineries, art galleries, shops, and parks near major universities and tech companies.

Greensboro’s Historic Magnolia House ranked fifth, featuring four guest rooms inspired by music legends who stayed there, including Tina Turner, James Brown, and Ray Charles. The property is also one of North Carolina’s few remaining Green Book sites.
