Article Icon 1 Heat Warnings Issued Across State

North Carolina has entered its fourth heat wave of the year with an extreme heat warning in effect through Sunday evening.

Highs near 100 degrees, paired with tropical humidity, are pushing heat index values to a sweltering 105–115 degrees.

Much of central North Carolina, including the Raleigh-Durham and Fayetteville areas, is under heat warnings or advisories.

Authorities urge folks to stay hydrated, check on neighbors, and never leave kids or pets in parked cars. The heat wave is expected to last until the middle of next week.

A missing North Carolina woman last seen in St. George, Utah, was found alive in Colorado nine months after she was reported missing.

Authorities say Kelsey Pittman was initially reported missing last November before her car, a 2009 Chevrolet HHR, was discovered near Slab City, a remote California tourist attraction about 63 miles south of Joshua Tree.

The discovery sparked a months-long search involving drones, cadaver dogs, and multiple law enforcement agencies, but no trace of her was found until now.

Officials haven’t said where in Colorado she was found or shared details about her condition out of respect for her family’s privacy.

A contractor from Bat Cave has earned America’s Hardest Worker award for his volunteer recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene.

Jake Jarvis was selected from hundreds of nominees and earned national recognition for clearing landslides, rebuilding bridges, and reinforcing homes at no cost across Western North Carolina.

Unbelievable. America’s hardest worker. I mean, my dad would be proud—because he really was,” Jarvis said, with tears in his eyes.

Earlier this year, Jarvis lost $77,000 in a bulldozer scam while trying to buy equipment to speed up his volunteer work—but kept going anyway, using personal savings to continue supporting the community.
