Article Icon 1Flash Flooding in Sanford County

Flash flood warnings were issued in parts of Sanford County after four inches of rain fell in just two and a half hours.

Emergency crews responded to around 20 calls, including several people whose cars had slid off the road due to the flooding. Some businesses were also impacted, including a mechanic who was rescued by boat in his auto shop.

All the streets that had closed due to flooding have been reopened, though officials warn of standing water and downed power lines. More storms are moving into the area today, prompting Sanford officials to maintain a Level 2 risk out of 5 for further severe weather.

Walmart announced that it’s expanding its drone delivery service to five cities, including Charlotte.

Through the drone company Wing, shoppers can shop for thousands of products and expect delivery within 30 minutes or less. The drone can move at speeds of up to 65 mph and can drop deliveries exactly where requested.

Though the cost for the service is unclear, customers can expect delivery from participating stores within a six mile radius.

The service is said to be starting in about a year.

Article Icon 1Chimney Rock Announces Reopening

Chimney Rock State Park is set to reopen on June 27, according to state officials, exactly nine months after Hurricane Helene’s impact.

The park had been closed after bridges in the area, as well as the park entrance bridge had been washed out by the storm. The only current open access is Rumbling Bald, a popular rock-climbing spot.

Prior to the hurricane, the park drew crowds of up to 300,000 in 2021.

Park hours will be announced soon, and capacity will be limited. A ticketing reservation system is set to start up one week before the park’s reopening.
