Question: What was the name of North Carolina’s first newspaper?

Answer: In 1749, Colonial North Carolina’s legislature decided it needed a press of its own to print currency and laws. James Davis, an experienced printer from Virginia, was hired to set up shop in New Bern. Davis soon ventured into newspaper publishing, and in August 1751, he published the first issue of The North Carolina Gazette—North Carolina’s first newspaper.
